Weekend Workshop #2

Date: March 6, 2004
Location: Tucson: Barrio Historico, Mission San Javier del Bac and Tumacacori National Monument.
Photographic Skill Enhancement Exercises: Composition with an emphasis on Color and Lines
Print Review (no extra cost): March 7th. Review of photographs improved during Workshop 1.
Cost: $215

Workshop description:Tucson’s Barrio Historico is one of the best kept secrets in Arizona. Prior to moving to Southern Arizona last year I had seen photographs of it but did not know its exact location. Repeated trips to the Barrio this year, and extensive photography there with formats ranging from 35mm to 4×5, have taught us exactly where all the best locations are. We are now offering to take you there. If you like photographing colorful subjects, doors and doorways, and architecture, this workshop is for you. We will also photograph two of the most photogenic Spanish Missions in the Southwest: San Xavier del Bac and Tumacacori National Monument. San Xavier was photographed and made famous by Ansel Adams. Certainly, black and white lends itself to photographing San Xavier, also called The Cathedral of the Desert. However, color offers endless opportunities for stunning images. The quality of the light in Southern Arizona is unique and if you haven’t witnessed it yourself this is an opportunity you do not want to miss. This workshop focuses on Composition with an emphasis on Color and Lines. You will perform Photographic Skill Enhancement Exercises on Color and Lines during this workshop

We will spend all morning in the Phoenix Botanical Garden, have lunch in a nice restaurant, then spend the entire afternoon in Phoenix South Mountain Park. This is the largest urban park in the US and rightly so. It covers hundred of acres and has Native American rock art and ruins in, a mountain range and countless species of plants including Saguaro cactuses. We will take you to one of the most photogenic places in this huge park and scout for a great location to photograph sunset.
